Youth Delegation to
G7 and G20
Summit

YPFP is the officially recognized organization for selecting and sending U.S. delegates to the Y7 and Y20. We work closely with international partners to ensure that the youth voice is represented at the highest levels of diplomacy.
The Youth Delegates develop policy statements (communiqués) representing young voices addressed to the G7 and G20 leadership.
*Note, the USA Y7 and Y20 delegation does not represent the U.S. federal government in any capacity.

What is the Y7 and Y20?
The Y7 is the official youth engagement group of the G7, where young delegates from each member country gather to negotiate, write, and present policy recommendations to G7 leaders. The summit usually covers global issues such as climate, economic recovery, global health, and digital transformation.
The Y20 is the official youth engagement group of the G20, convening youth delegates from all G20 member states to develop and present policy recommendations to global leaders. Themes include inclusive growth, digital innovation, sustainability, education, and global governance.
The summit covers global issues such as climate, economic recovery, global health, and digital transformation.

Apply to Represent the U.S.
Generally, applications open in January for the Y7, and March for the Y20 each year. Delegates must be US citizens, YPFP members, aged 22-30, and have deep expertise in one of the track themes. Come back here to apply when applications open!

Road to the G7 & G20 Table

Month 1
Delegate Selection
Finalists are interviewed and selected by a panel of YPFP leaders and past delegates. Selected delegates are notified and publicly announced.

Month 2-4
Onboarding & Policy Training
Delegates undergo a series of training sessions to refine policy priorities, develop negotiation skills, and collaborate with international peers, which includes:
-
Virtual coordination with other country delegations
-
Deep dives on summit themes
-
Coaching from past delegates and policy experts

Month 5
Summit Participation
Delegates attend the official Y7 Summit (in-person or hybrid), where they:
-
Negotiate policy recommendations
-
Draft and finalize the official Y7 Communiqué
-
Present proposals to G7 representatives and policymakers

Post-Summit
Post-Summit Engagement
Delegates often remain active with YPFP and Y7/Y20 networks, debrief with U.S. policymakers, publish op-eds, and share insights with the YPFP community. Many go on to speak at events, join future selection panels, or mentor future delegates.
