The Rising Experts Program collaborated on a virtual workshop in conjunction with the new Los Angeles branch! Steven Leckart, an investigative journalist and documentary filmmaker, discussed developing a career in the media and publications space.

Steven covered four topics: his career trajectory in media (between print/digital publications and video), the challenges of developing a career in this space (i.e., finances, saturated market), working for big news organizations/media companies vs. freelancing, and where the media space was heading (i.e., technology and booms/busts).

Bio: Steven Leckart is an Emmy-winning writer, director, producer, and investigative journalist, known for his documentaries "Stans" (2025), which premiered at #1 on Paramount+, "Challenger: The Final Flight" (2020), nominated for two News and Documentary Emmy Awards, "What's My Name: Muhammad Ali" (2019), and "Wild Things: Siegfried & Roy" (2022). He co-authored the New York Times best-selling book "Cabin Porn" (2016). His written publications have appeared in The New York Times Magazine, Wired, Popular Science, Maxim, Men's Health, and Esquire. He also narrated and executive produced the podcast series "Wild Things: Siegfried & Roy," which will soon become a scripted show starring Jude Law and Andrew Garfield. Steven is based in California and has a masters in journalism from UC Berkeley.
