How can I become a member of YPFP?

You can apply for YPFP membership here. When you apply, please indicate which location you would like to join. After your registration, you will be prompted to pay your membership dues.

Who is eligible for YPFP membership?

Young professionals and students (undergraduate and above) with demonstrated interest in foreign policy are eligible for YPFP membership.

What are your age requirements? Do I need a degree to join YPFP?

YPFP has no age requirements! The current age range of our members is 21-35.

What if there is not a chapter near me?

We welcome you to join as a global member, which will enable you to submit articles for YPFP’s online publication Charged Affairs and give you access to YPFP events that are streamed by our hubs across the globe.

Can I start a chapter?

We appreciate your interest in starting a YPFP chapter! YPFP is not currently opening additional chapters. If you would like to remain connected with YPFP and receive information regarding our future global expansion plans, please follow us on social media. In the meantime, we hope you will take advantage of our global membership option!

How do I know when my annual dues will expire?

Your membership dues are for one calendar year (365 days). When you log into the YPFP website, an alert will appear in your profile reminding you that your dues have expired. You will also receive an email notification.

Where does my money go?

Member dues support YPFP programs around the world, more professional development and networking opportunities for our members, a new and improved website, and better membership benefits.

Why can't I register for YPFP events?

YPFP is a member-driven organization, and most of our events are only open to our members. In order to register for members-only events, you will need to apply to become a YPFP member, pay your annual membership dues, and log-in to the YPFP website. If you have any questions about your membership status, you can email membership@ypfp.org.

Will my membership ever expire? Can it lapse?

Once you have become  a YPFP member and paid your membership dues, you will remain a member for twelve months.  You do not need to participate in social activities or events to remain a member of YPFP.  We understand you’re busy and want to make it as easy as possible to get involved again once you’re ready. However, if you do not renew your dues after they expire, you will lose access to member only sections of the website and access to most YPFP events. You can renew your dues online at any time to reinstate your membership.

What if I’m a member of one branch, but working, studying, or moving to a different location?

We want to make it easy for you to maintain your YPFP membership and involvement no matter where you are located! Please email membership@ypfp.org to assist you with transferring your membership.


I’m looking for a job in international affairs, national security, or foreign policy. Can YPFP help?

YPFP shares career and internship opportunities in our regular newsletters. We also email members whenever special employment and internship opportunities arise.

Does YPFP have any paid volunteer positions?

YPFP is grateful for its tremendous community of 150+ global volunteers. All YPFP volunteer positions are unpaid, and applicants must become a dues-paying member to accept a volunteer position. Our global volunteers support day-to-day operations of the organization and in the process learn valuable leadership, management, and mentorship skills while ensuring that YPFP programming remains creative and relevant to our next generation members.

Our volunteer infrastructure also doubles as a hands-on leadership incubator for young professionals who are eager to catalyze their careers and give back to society.


How is YPFP managed? Who is in charge?

Founded in 2004 as a small discussion group of friends, YPFP’s membership now spans 80 countries and a network of over 20,000 professionals.  Its Board of Directors provides overall direction, while YPFP President Alexia D’Arco and YPFP Chief of Staff Bunmi Akinnusotu oversee daily operations from Washington DC. Each YPFP branch or hub has a local managing director and/or executive director, all of whom serve in a volunteer capacity. You can learn more about YPFP leadership here.

How is YPFP funded?

As a 501(c)(3) organization, YPFP relies on the generous donations of individuals, foundations, corporations, and others to help us fulfill our mission. Nearly 100% of the donations we receive go straight into improving the activities, programs, and initiatives that are at the heart of YPFP -- and what our members benefit from most.
