Mariya has volunteered with YPFP since November 2018 and is currently serving as the Managing Editor of Charged Affairs and IT Support Specialist.
Mariya is a foreign service officer with the U.S. Department of State and is in Arabic language training in preparation for her first overseas tour as a consular officer at the U.S. Embassy Amman. Previously, Mariya taught English as a Fulbright Scholar in Antalya, Turkey from 2015-2016 and worked as a business product analyst at Liberty Mutual Insurance, a fortune-100 company, in Boston from 2013-2015.
Mariya is a Thomas R. Pickering Fellow, Public Policy & International Affairs Fellow, The White House Fellow, and Davis Projects for Peace Fellow. She has completed internships at the Office of the Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan, the U.S. Embassy Bangkok, Population Reference Bureau, and Al-Imtiaz Academy, a school serving underprivileged students in her native Pakistan where she taught English and journalism for two summers. Mariya is an avid volunteer with the Bowdoin Alumni Office and the Fletcher Giving Office.
Mariya holds an MA in security studies and global maritime affairs from The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy and a BA in mathematics from Bowdoin College. Mariya speaks Hindko, Urdu, Turkish, Spanish and rudimentary Arabic. Mariya hails from Alexandria, VA and enjoys blogging, writing poetry, and baking.
