WASHINGTON, DC- The 11th annual Affairs of State Gala & Fundraiser featured 2018 Leadership Award winners Ashley Sogge and Hazami Barmada, and an announcement of collaboration with the UAE Embassy on 2019 Programming
Washington, D.C. –Young Professionals in Foreign Policy (YPFP), the premier global organization for rising leaders in international affairs, hosted its 11th annual Affairs of State Gala & Fundraiser on Saturday, November 10th in Washington, D.C. Over 400 dynamic and diverse emerging professionals across the public and private sectors turned out for this black-tie event in the heart of the nation’s capital. The gala was part of a broader campaign called Burst Your Bubble, which highlighted diverse topics, people, and places in the foreign policy ecosystem.
YPFP honored two rising leaders with its 2018 YPFP Leadership Awards. Ashley Sogge, an Associate in the Military Pathways Development Program at JPMorgan Chase and Director of Operations at PROMOTE, a non-profit that fosters inclusion and innovation in U.S. military and national security organizations, was presented with the Veterans Leadership Award. Hazami Barmada, Managing Partner of The Barmada Group and Founder & CEO of Humanity Lab, received the Global Leadership Award.
“I’m honored to receive the 2018 Veteran Leadership award. Now more than ever, our country needs principled, innovative, and inclusive leaders to tackle our nation’s most complex national security dilemmas. I’m proud to support these leaders through our work at PROMOTE and am grateful that YPFP is recognizing leaders that want to affect real change,” said Ashley Sogge.
“It is a pleasure to accept the 2018 Global Leadership Award. In my work with leading global organizations, I’ve sought to disrupt the status quo and be an agent of change. YPFP is a bold organization that seeks to do the same. YPFP is disrupting the traditional foreign policy constructs and injecting new, bold voices into the conversation, and it is an honor to be recognized with this award" said Hazami Barmada.
In addition to recognizing award winners, YPFP announced that it will collaborate with the Embassy of the United Arab Emirates in Washington, DC in 2019 on new programs, including a study tour to the UAE and a speaker series in the United States.
“The UAE is committed to empowering and educating the next generation of leaders,” said UAE Ambassador to the US Yousef Al Otaiba. “We are honored to collaborate with YPFP on that shared goal. Through these programs, we hope to enhance understanding and create meaningful connections.”
