Posted on July 19, 2012

On Tuesday 17 July, 2012, Young Professionals in Foreign Policy Brussels held an Ambassador Series talk with a well-received lecture on modern diplomacy from UK Ambassador to Belgium Jonathan Brenton.

Sixty Brussels-based diplomatic hopefuls listened as Ambassador Brenton related his personal experiences working for the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office and explained how diplomacy is changing in the 21st century. He described the importance that diplomacy has on shaping Britain’s foreign and economic policy, and the advantages of being able to foster diplomatic relationships in person.

After the talk, the young audience of all nationalities were eager to question Ambassador Brenton about his ideas and experiences, with the ambassador welcoming questions ranging from the effect of social media on diplomacy to the benefits of a united front in European foreign policy.
