Become a mentor with BEST Kids Mentoring Program. BEST Kids is a 501(c)(3) non-profit that empowers foster care youth in Washington D.C. by connecting them with long-term, caring, consistent mentors. Mentors and mentees are matched in a one-on-one capacity, and spend time exploring the DMV, working on independent living skills, and trying new activities together.
Each mentor is matched with a BEST Kids Mentor Coordinator for support throughout the course of their mentoring relationship, and in addition to monthly programming available for all mentors and mentees, BEST Kids also hosts a Superhero 5K, an annual Art of The Matter Gala, seasonal picnics and celebrations, and occasional happy hours and appreciation dinners for mentors.
In addition to having reliable access to a car, general requirements and responsibilities for BEST Kids mentors include:
- Commit to be a mentor for a minimum of one year
- Commit to spend 10 hours per month with your mentee, including weekly contact and a monthly Peer Group activity
- Complete the background clearance process, and a pre-service training
The first step to becoming a mentor is to fill out the BEST Kids online application. Any questions or concerns can be sent to BEST Kids’ Mentor Recruiter, Danny Silbert, at firstname.lastname@example.org
