Always wondered about how human rights and democracy fits into U.S. foreign policy, or do you have questions about why it should be a U.S. priority? Then join YPFP for a discussion with Deputy Assistant Secretary Tom Melia from the State Department’s Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights and Labor. DAS Melia is the Department’s senior official responsible for covering Eurasian and the Middle East human rights policy. Previous to his time at State, Tom Melia has worked as the Deputy Director of Freedom House, has held senior posts at the National Democratic Institute, has worked with the AFL-CIO, and as a senior legislative assistant for former U.S. SenatorDaniel Patrick Moynihan. DAS Melia will be making a brief introduction, and the rest of the time will be allocated to questions.
