In her new book, Linda Robinson gives an inside account of Gen. David Petraeus’ attempt to turn around the war and lays out the options that the next president will face. Robinson has made ten extended trips to Iraq and spent a total of ten months on the ground since the war began. For this book, she interviewed Iraqi leaders, Iraqi and US troops at all levels from Petraeus to privates.

Linda Robinson is author in residence at the Philip Merrill Center for Strategic Studies at the Johns Hopkins School for Advanced International Studies. She covered wars in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Latin America, as well as other national security issues, as a senior writer for U.S. News & World Report. She is the author of the New York Times bestseller Masters of Chaos, The Secret History of the Special Forces, and articles in Foreign Affairs, World Policy Journal, Survival, the New Republic, Outside, and Condé Nast Traveler. She was a Nieman Fellow at Harvard University and senior editor of Foreign Affairs. She is the recipient of the Gerald R. Ford Prize for Reporting on National Defense for 2004 and other journalism awards.
