The National Committee on American Foreign Policy has generously offered YPFP ten complimentary tickets to attend States at the Extremes: Confronting Violent Extremism in Syria and Iraq moderated by James Bays, Diplomatic Editor at Al Jazeera.
One of the most visible challenges facing the international community today is the troubling rise of violent extremism. While evident elsewhere, nowhere is this critical issue more apparent than in the shattered nations of Syria and Iraq. These, as with other failed or failing states, provide an environment that only helps to stir zealous and unconscionable attitudes and behavior. Join the NCAFP, YPFP and Ambassador Robert Ford as he discusses how we can confront this insurgent violent extremism in Syria, Iraq and other states.
Robert S. Ford is a renowned expert on Syria, Iraq, and North Africa, and is currently a Senior Fellow at Yale University’s Jackson Institute for Global Affairs as well as the Middle East Institute in Washington, D.C. He retired from public service in 2014, having completed a 30-year career with the Peace Corps and the U.S. Department of State. Mr. Ford was the U.S. Ambassador to Syria from 2011 to 2014, the Deputy U.S. Ambassador to Iraq from 2008 to 2010, the Political Counselor to the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad from 2004 to 2006, and the U.S. Ambassador to Algeria from 2006 to 2008. Mr. Ford received the U.S. Department of State’s Distinguished Service award in 2014.
