The International Rescue Committee works with 1,000 refugees, asylees, and survivors of human trafficking annually. In honor of upcoming World Refugee Day, the organization will present an overview of the global refugee community, the U.S. resettlement process, the IRC’s local work in D.C. and Maryland, and how the public can get involved.
Speaker: Emily Sernaker
Emily Sernaker is the development coordinator for the International Rescue Committee’s resettlement office in Silver Spring, Maryland. Prior to joining the IRC, Emily worked with The Polaris Project, Wellspring International, The San Diego Rescue Mission, and Invisible Children. Emily is a Rotary International Ambassadorial Scholar. She holds a BA in Creative Writing and Social Justice from the University of Redlands and a MSc in Equality Studies from University College Dublin.
