Re-Engage!
America and the World after Bush, An Informed Citizen's Guide

Helena Cobban
Contributing Editor, Boston Review

In her book, veteran journalist and author Helena Cobban addresses key foreign policy issues facing the U.S. at the end of the Bush era. She stresses the need to mend relationships with the international community and cooperatively address global challenges including: terrorism and weapons proliferation, inequality, rights abuses, and climate change. In her concise and timely guide, Ms. Cobban aims to show Americans how to re-engage as neighbors, as a country, and as a trusted international partner.

Helena Cobban, a long-time contributor to The Christian Science Monitor and other media, has traveled to 18 foreign countries on four continents since 9/11 and has witnessed first-hand the deterioration of the American reputation abroad. Since February 2003 she has written “Just World News”, an engaging blog on Middle East and world affairs. Ms. Cobban has held research fellowships at Harvard University, Georgetown University, and the Brookings Institution and has taught courses at the Institut des Etudes Politiques and Eastern Mennonite University. She served as Co-Director of the Initiative for Peace and Cooperation in the Middle East. She has written six other books, including The Moral Architecture of World Peace (2000), The Superpowers and the Syrian-Israeli Conflict (1991) and The Making of Modern Lebanon (1985). Ms. Cobban is also a 'Friend in Washington' with the Washington, DC-based Friends Committee on National Legislation. She received her B.A. and M.A. from Oxford University.
