Young Professionals in Foreign Policy (YPFP) is committed to fostering the next generation of foreign policy leaders by providing its members with the knowledge, skills, exposure, and relationships they will need to tackle critical global challenges over the course of their careers. YPFP is a dynamic, global, nonpartisan, non-profit organization with 10,000+ selected members around the world who work in all fields of international affairs. It was established in 2004, and is headquartered in Washington, DC, with branches in Brussels, London, and New York. YPFP is supported by around 150 volunteer staff members worldwide, for whom the leadership and management of a global NGO supplements their daytime career or graduate studies.
About the Team
The Communications Team at Young Professionals in Foreign Policy New York (YPFP NY) is responsible for all matters related to internal and external communications, including:
Event promotion, coverage and follow-up
Advertisement and marketing to prospective new members
Content creation and marketing
Internal communications and knowledge management
The Team aims to use the latest tools, platforms and best practices to foster the vision and mission of YPFP, by ensuring effective and efficient sharing of information with, and provoking and fostering thought leadership and debate among internal audiences, members, stakeholders and the general public.
Tasks and Responsibilities
Reporting to the Communications Director and working closely with the Membership Team of YPFP New York, the Marketing and Recruitment Specialist will be responsible for the public-facing part of YPFP’s recruitment efforts including those for members, staff, writers, and any other new roles or avenues. He or she will also work to seek out new audiences for and avenues through which to promote YPFP as an organization, especially amongst policy, business and community organizations in New York City that are likely sources of members or otherwise useful partnerships.
The Marketing and Recruitment Specialist will be responsible for developing assets including, but not limited to:
Evergreen content on membership benefits for all channels;
Communications assets and strategy for new membership events and other communications needs for Membership Team;
Advertising strategy in new member recruitment;
University/student fair opportunity mapping exercise and outreach strategy;
The Marketing and Recruitment Specialist will develop periodic trainings for all staff, particularly the Communications Team, to increase their skills related to marketing, advertisement, and recruitment.
In addition, the Marketing and Recruitment Specialist will take on his/her share of the overall team responsibilities including staffing and attending events and staff meetings.
Skills and Qualifications
• Degree in communications, marketing, public administration, journalism, social science, management
• Experience in developing and implementing branding and marketing campaigns and applying creative communications approaches, generating and developing new external partnerships with advertising and public relations agencies and media organizations
• Excellent promotional writing, editing and verbal skills
• Demonstrated facility with social media outreach, and an interest in creative marketing essential, as is a strong sense of design and focus on detail
• Interest or experience in foreign policy is a must
This position requires a time commitment of approximately 10 hours per week, and successful candidates will be able to make at least a one-year commitment to the role. Please note that you are not required to be a YPFP member to apply, but you will be required to confirm membership to be accepted.
