February Book Club: 'Bitter Fruit'

Bitter_Fruit.jpg

Join YPFP NY's book club this month to discuss Bitter Fruit: The Story of the American Coup in Guatemala written by Stephen Schlesinger, Stephen Kinzer, and John H. Coatsworth.

First published in 1982, Bitter Fruit is a classic must-read. It is a "comprehensive and insightful" account of the CIA operation that aimed to overthrow the democratically elected government of Jacob Arbenz of Guatemala in 1954. Referencing government documents and interviews with former CIA and other officials, the authors warns the readers what happens when the US abuses its power.
