Negotiation is a vital part of our lives, but do you know how to negotiate effectively?
From personal finance to careers in foreign policy, understanding how to asses your interests, plan positions, use relationships and execute an effective process are all key negotiation skills.
Please join YPFP NY for a Leadership Skills Workshop on Advanced Negotiation on January 21 with a trained negotiation facilitator, Jonathan Dowdall.
This event will explore in more depth many concepts that were introduced during the first Leadership Skills Workshop on Negotiation in early December: how to satisfy interests; the impact of positions; ways of building relationships while delivering results; and the importance of a structured process. It builds on previous discussion of negotiation principles by drawing from case studies and current affairs -- as well as your own experiences.
The course is fully interactive, with exercises to test these skills and facilitated group learning. Participants will be divided into teams to engage in simulated international negotiations in a range of scenarios. They will leave with a better understanding of negotiations in any context.
RSVP: Sign into your YPFP member account and register. Register by COB Friday, January 20.
Attendance at the previous Negotiation Skills Workshop is not required. Those who participated in the first one will be given registration priority, however.
This event is presented as part of YPFP NY's Leadership Skills Workshop Series, a set of meetings that helps YPFP members build hands-on skills for their professional advancement.
Jonathan Dowdall is a foreign policy adviser with experience from British diplomatic postings at the United Nations and NATO. He was previously a defence affairs journalist and security policy consultant. Jonathan is a trained negotiation facilitator and has run courses in negotiation skills for NGO staff in Lebanon and YPFP members in Brussels and New York.
