A Conversation with Michael Doran, NSC Senior Director for the Middle East & North Africa

I am pleased to invite you to YPFP's upcoming Conversation with Michael Doran, Senior Director for Near East & North African Affairs at the National Security Council. With a portfolio covering all countries in the region except for Iraq, Dr. Doran is in a unique position to discuss U.S. policy towards specific states as well as the area more broadly. This event will be held on Wednesday April 4, from 7:00 - 8:30pm, at the Eisenhower Executive Office Building. Please note that you will have to arrive no later than 6:20 pm in order to pass through security.

Because space for this event is quite limited, please RSVP by responding to this email only if you are confident that you will be able to attend. This meeting is only open to YPFP members. When you RSVP, please include the following information which the Secret Service requires for security purposes:

-Your full name
-Your date of birth
-Your employer
-Your social security number

If you are uncomfortable submitting your social security number via email, you will have the option to do so by phone once your RSVP is confirmed, but you must be accessible next week in order to do that.

Michael Doran

In August 2005, Mike Doran was appointed to the National Security Council as Senior Director for Near East and North African Affairs. His portfolio covers all of the countries in the region except for Iraq.

Prior to coming to the NSC, Dr. Doran was a professor in the Department of Near Eastern Studies at Princeton University, where he taught courses on the international politics of the Middle East. From 2002 to 2004 he also served as an Adjunct Senior Fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations in New York. Prior to arriving at Princeton, Dr. Doran taught in the History Department at the University of Central Florida.

He is the author of, among other things, a study of the first Arab-Israeli war, entitled Pan-Arabism before Nasser, and "Somebody Else's Civil War," an influential article on Osama bin Laden, published in the January/February 2002 issue of Foreign Affairs.

Originally from Indiana, Dr. Doran received a BA from Stanford in 1987 and a PhD from Princeton in 1997.
