About YPFP

Mission
Young Professionals in Foreign Policy is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization committed to fostering the next generation of  foreign policy leadership. We dedicate ourselves to honest, informed, thoughtful discussion of international affairs; the professional advancement, intellectual development, and personal growth of our members; camaraderie within our community; and public service.

Vision
To form an enduring community of bright and accomplished young people – informed, engaged and involved in foreign policy – based on common goals, mutual interests, and shared values; to develop the leadership, knowledge, skills, and relationships needed to manage international affairs and guide foreign policy into the future.

We understand today’s challenges are complex, numerous and interconnected, and believe our generation must…

  • Gain the knowledge, skills and relationships necessary to succeed in foreign policy
  • Break down political, bureaucratic, cultural and sectarian barriers to cooperation
  • Recognize that no single sector, country or entity can succeed alone, and that solutions will often be interdisciplinary and transnational, drawing on civil society, business, and government
  • Adapt to a changing workforce that is more fluid, competitive and globalized
  • Encourage more young people to choose careers in foreign policy and public service

Branches
Foreign policy leadership requires international engagement. After overwhelming success in Washington, beginning in November 2004, YPFP has expanded to:

  • London in September 2006
As the community's transatlantic arm, YPFP London brings its distinctive non-partisan policy discussion, networking and public service concept to one of the world’s most dynamic capitals.
  • New York in September 2007
YPFP's New York branch extends the community to a financial capital of the world, a major media center, the home of several leading foreign policy academic centers and think tanks, as well as the headquarters of the United Nations.
  • Brussels in April 2008
Located in the city that headquarters both the European Union and NATO, YPFP's newest branch lies in heart of the European policymaking community.
