- Leadership [3]
In Fall 2007, YPFP launched its New York branch. As the financial capital of the world, a major media center, the home of several leading foreign policy academic centers and think tanks, as well as the headquarters of the United Nations, New York is one of the world’s most important centers of people, institutions and ideas shaping global affairs.
The diversity of people and activities concentrated in and around Manhattan offers a unique opportunity to engage in earnest debate on the challenges facing foreign policy leaders. Meeting these challenges will require innovative and dynamic partnerships involving public and private institutions, international organizations, nongovernmental organizations, and government agencies from the United States and other countries.
YPFP New York will continue the organization’s broader mission to foster the next generation of foreign policy leaders by building a sense of community, common understanding, and a shared sense of purpose in New York.
Benefits of Membership
In a word, YPFP membership offers access—access to top-level current leaders, access to a network of intelligent, energetic future leaders, and access to other organizations shaping foreign policy throughout the city. YPFP New York will follow the successful model pioneered in Washington through three primary modes:
- Organizing enriching events with the “best in the business” from the financial sector, media outlets, academic institutions, and international and nongovernmental organizations. In these small, private, off-the-record discussions, members have the opportunity to engage leaders and experts in an intimate setting. NY Members help set the agenda for these events.
- Providing the opportunity for members to connect with their peers through Discussion Groups, social gatherings, online forums, and Public Service activities. YPFP offers unparalleled opportunities to develop a deep, broad, and valuable professional network at the start of one’s career.
- Establishing partnerships with other organizations throughout New York engaged in international relations, such as the Carnegie Council on Ethics in International Affairs. Through these partnerships, YPFP members gain special access to events sponsored by these institutions.
