Join us for YPFP London's first annual lecture, with Dr Liam Fox MP, Conservative Shadow Defence Secretary, on Monday,10 December, from 6:00pm (for 6:30pm) . The lecture will be followed by a wine reception, with nibbles, and the event will end at 8:30pm.
YPFP members are encouraged to bring qualified friends and colleagues, as long as you RSVP.

Dr. Liam Fox
Dr Fox was appointed the Shadow Secretary for Defence in May 2005. Prior to this, he held a number of roles including time as a Senior whip and a Minister at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office from 1996 until the 1997 General Election. In opposition, Dr Fox has served as Shadow Secretary of State for Health and Co-Chairman of the Conservative Party before his current appointment.
Dr Fox was educated at the University of Glasgow where he studied medicine. As a keen university debater he won national and international prizes. Dr Fox is a member of the Royal College of General Practitioners. He has worked as a Civilian Army Medical Officer and also in the voluntary sector as a divisional surgeon for St Johns before working as a GP in Buckinghamshire and Somerset.
Dr Fox contested Roxburgh and Berwickshire in the 1987 General Election, and was elected as the Member of Parliament for Woodspring in April 1992.
Mr. James R. Wright
Mr. Wright assumed his responsibilities as Canadian High Commissioner to the UK in August, 2006.
Born in Montreal, Mr. Wright attended McGill University before joining the Department of Foreign Affairs in 1976. With the Canadian Foreign Service, he has served in Moscow (1978-1980), Washington (1983-1987) and London (1992-1996) where he was Minister, Political and Public Affairs, at the Canadian High Commission. In Ottawa, he has worked in the Office of the Prime Minister and as Director of Personnel.
From 1996-2000, Mr. Wright was Director General for the Central, East and South Europe Bureau. From 2000-2004, he was the Assistant Deputy Minister for the Global and Security Policy Branch. In January 2005, he assumed the position of Assistant Deputy Minister for the International Security Branch. Mr. Wright also served as the Political Director. He speaks English, French and Russian.

An unnamed German publisher has agreed to publish The Jewel of Medina, a novel about the prophet Muhammed and his child bride. The book was passed over by Random House over concerns that it might incite anger among Muslims. Though the author claims the story honors the prophet and his wife, the book was withdrawn from shelves in Serbia after local imams protested, saying the book was insulting to Islam. -
