CSIS Middle East Program Coordinator and Research Assistant

The Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) is a non-profit, bipartisan public policy organization established in 1962 to provide strategic insights and practical policy solutions to decisionmakers concerned with global security and prosperity. Over the years, it has grown to be one of the largest organizations of its kind, with a staff of some 200 employees, including more than 120 analysts working to address the changing dynamics of international security across the globe.
 

The Middle East Program at CSIS is seeking a dynamic candidate with a keen interest and significant experience in Middle East issues to join its team as Program Coordinator and Research Assistant. This individual will provide primary administrative and research support to the program director and coordinate all aspects of the program’s operations. The ideal candidate will have solid judgment and the ability to multi-task in a fast paced and demanding environment.
 
Description of Duties
Administrative:
• Manage all aspects of program’s day-to-day operations
• Coordinate conferences, events, and trips-both in Washington, D.C. and abroad
• Liaise with Center administrative departments
• Draft program correspondence
• Draft, edit and lay out project newsletters, releases, and other publications
• Manage the program’s budget as well as formulate budgets for individual projects
• Maintain contact database
• Manage the research activities of 2-3 interns per semester
• Interact with senior principals from U.S. and abroad
Research:
• Provide substantive research support to the program director and other fellows
• Assist in the formulation of strategic development goals
 
Experience
B.A. or M.A. in international relations, Middle Eastern Studies, or a related field is required. Strong organization, writing, and communication skills are required, as well as computer literacy including InDesign, PowerPoint, Excel and experience with web-based academic research tools. Familiarity with budgets is helpful. In addition, the ideal candidate will have the ability to work closely with a range of individuals from diverse backgrounds and cultures. Candidates with a strong working knowledge of a regional language and substantial overseas experience are strongly preferred.
