Young Professionals in Foreign Policy (YPFP) fosters the next generation of foreign policy leaders by providing its members knowledge, skills, exposure, and relationships they will need to tackle critical global challenges over the course of their careers. YPFP is a dynamic, global, nonpartisan, nonprofit organization with more than 10,000 selected members around the world who work in all fields of international affairs. It was established in 2004, and is headquartered in Washington, DC, with branches in Brussels, London, and New York.
In its 9th year, Affairs of State is YPFP’s annual gala hosted in Washington, DC. The event raises awareness of the organization and celebrates its achievements while raising valuable funds to help our nonprofit grow in years to come. The silent/online auction is a critical feature of the event that raises critical revenue. The Auction Manager volunteers will get a front-row seat to the ins and outs of the gala planning process and play a crucial role in achieving YPFP’s revenue goals for the event.
These positions report to the Special Events Coordinator with additional supervision from senior members of the Affairs of State project team. This position runs from March to October 2016.
Roles & Responsibilities
Serve as primary manager of acquisition and management of items for silent/online auction
Work with the Affairs of State project team to identify potential auction donors (retailers, restaurants, spas/salons, health and fitness centers, etc) and maintain master tracker of donation solicitation
Take the lead on reaching out to the majority of donors and work with Affairs of State project team to ensure that all potential donors are contacted
Ensure that all donation procurement planning, execution, and follow-up is conducted in a timely manner
Maintain the online auction platform in the weeks leading up to the event as well as the silent auction on the night of the gala.

Excellent communication skills, including ability to convey YPFP’s mission to a range of potential donors effectively and enthusiastically
Ability to work independently as well as with a team
Creative and committed to the YPFP mission and fundraising goals for the gala
- Ability to commit 5-10 hours per week (assume an increase in time commitment closer to the date of the gala)
