Social Media Director, Marketing & Communications Department (Volunteer)

Young Professionals in Foreign Policy (YPFP) fosters the next generation of foreign policy leaders by providing its members the knowledge, skills, exposure, and relationships to tackle critical global challenges over the course of their careers.  YPFP is a dynamic, global, nonpartisan, nonprofit organization with more than 10,000 selected members around the world who work in all fields of international affairs.  It was established in 2004, and is headquartered in Washington, DC, with branches in Brussels, London, and New York.

Position Description:

The Director of Social Media is responsible for implementing YPFP’s social media strategy in collaboration with other members of the Communications team and under the direction of Vice President and Managing Director of Communications and Marketing. Daily responsibilities include interaction with existing and potential members through social media and member engagement and the management of social media coordinators as well as the oversight of YPFP social media accounts. In addition, the Director of Social Media will work with the YPFP leadership team to effectively communicate YPFP’s mission and message, build and maintain YPFP’s public image, and support other departments’ activities to ensure effective information transfer and branding.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Conveys YPFP’s dynamic message and brand, using social media

  • Participates in implementation of YPFP strategic communications plan

  • Manages and fosters relationships between YPFP and membership through social media channels, replies to any member inquiries

  • Utilizes social media, such as Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, and other emerging media platforms to engage existing members and social media participants as well as to attract new members.

  • Provides guidance and management to social media coordinators.

  • Responsible for social media strategy.

Eligibility and Requirements:

  • General (dues-paying) member of YPFP

  • Avid user of popular social media platforms.

  • Available 10 hours per week to engage with YPFP community through social media channels

  • Superb communication skills

  • Team player

  • Able to commit to the position for one year
