Research Assistant - Government Law and Society

The United States Institute of Peace is an independent quasi-federal institution established and funded by the U.S. Congress to: prevent and resolve violent international conflict; promote post-conflict stability and development; increase peacebuilding capacity, tools, and intellectual capital.The Institute accomplishes its mission through direct engagement in peacebuilding efforts around the world, and by empowering others with knowledge, skills, and resources.

Position Description 

The Research Assistant will assist the Governance, Law and Society Center's Science, Technology & Peacebuilding team with various projects. The work schedule is an average of 20 hours per week with a pay of $10-$14

Roles and Responsibilities 

  • Researching issues relevant to international peacebuilding
  • Writing
  • Logistical help for events
  • Administrative work

Eligibility and Requirements 

  • Masters student working in international relations, political science, or security studies 
  • Skills in media, science, technology or peacebuilding;Skills in data sciences are a plus
  • Successful applicants will possess a good understanding of media and technology and their role in conflict resolution, development, and humanitarian sectors
  • Excellent research, writing (in English), and critical thinking skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Creativity
  • Good inter-personal skills, and the ability to work well with a team in time-crunch situations
  • a working knowledge of software applications such as MS Excel and PowerPoint. Knowledge of content management systems is preferred 
  • Only full-time students from universities belonging to the Consortium of Universities of the Washington Metropolitan Area(CUWMA) can be considered for these openings
