OUTREACH ASSOCIATE, HEALTH AND REPRODUCTIVE RIGHTS

The National Women's Law Center (NWLC) Outreach Team engages advocates at the national and state level to improve policies that impact the lives of women and their families. The Outreach Associate will work to implement outreach strategies that support the Center’s health and reproductive rights work. The Outreach Associate will have the opportunity to be involved in projects like the Being a Woman is Not a Pre-Existing Condition campaign (www.awomanisnotapreexistingcondition.com), the Reform Matters project (www.nwlc.org/reformmatters), Religious Restrictions project, Medicaid Family Planning Project, the Judicial Nominations project, and numerous federal and state legislative outreach efforts related to the Center’s health and reproductive rights work.

The Outreach Associate will be part of the robust and growing Outreach Team. The Outreach Team is housed in the Center’s Communications Department.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

• Assisting in the creation of effective and dynamic health and reproductive rights campaigns, including developing and implementing campaign strategies, messaging, and production of related engagement activities and materials.  
• Supporting state and federal advocacy by coordinating regular communications with current advocates and coalition members, and developing opportunities for recruiting potential advocates.
• With the support of program staff and Outreach Manager, writing and editing action alerts, web content, blog posts, flyers, fact sheets, and other advocacy materials.
• Managing the logistics of advocacy conferences, rallies, meetings, webinars, conference calls, coalition sign-on letters, and related events.
• Managing and updating related health and reproductive rights web content, social media, and databases.
• Supporting NWLC's two yearly Progressive Leadership and Advocacy Network (PLAN) conferences and related activities, including handling the logistics for the two PLAN meetings, organizing regular follow-up, networking activities, and maintaining the PLAN listserv and web content.
• Providing support for the overall Outreach Team.

Qualifications

• A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree. A degree in a related field is preferred (public health, women’s studies, political science, etc).
• At least 2 years of related professional experience.
• A demonstrated ability to communicate and work effectively with a variety of constituents about issues, in person, by phone and in writing.
• Internet, social media, and computer savvy. Experience with eCRMs (Convio), HTML, Drupal, and databases (Raiser’s Edge) highly desired.
• A demonstrated understanding of grassroots organizing (online and offline) and progressive politics and political campaigns.
• The ability to work well with competing priorities, meet deadlines, and manage workflow processes involving multiple people.
• Demonstrated experience and judgment working both collaboratively and independently and the ability to make quick decisions.
A commitment to progressive women's issues is a must.
