Membership Services Coordinator, Membership Department (Volunteer)

Young Professionals in Foreign Policy (YPFP) fosters the next generation of foreign policy leaders by providing its members knowledge, skills, exposure, and relationships they will need to tackle critical global challenges over the course of their careers.

YPFP is a dynamic, global, nonpartisan, nonprofit organization with more than 8,000 selected members around the world who work in all fields of international affairs.  It was established in 2004, and is headquartered in Washington, DC, with branches in Brussels, London, and New York.

Position Description:

The Membership Services Coordinator will be the immediate face of the organization to the customer, working to provide solutions to their needs.  A newly created position in a newly created department within membership, this position has the potential to make a significant contribution to the overall YPFP strategic development.  As a customer-facing position responsible for responding directly to member needs, the incumbent will be given a chance to engage all aspects of the membership community.   

The successful candidate will be a high-energy, motivated individual, comfortable with ambiguity and excited about the opportunity to deliver superior customer service to our members.  

Experience in other customer-facing roles highly desirable, as are foreign language skills.  

Specific Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Act as the primary liaison between the membership department and outside customers (members).   

  • Support the membership Services director by providing insight, suggestions and advice as strategic initiatives are developed.  

  • Develop initiatives to enhance the member’s experience when contacting YPFP staff.

  • Working with other departments within membership, support the development of a strategic sustaining plan for our members.  

  • Provide assistance to other membership department projects and represent the membership department at events.

  • Answer member inquiries sent to membership@ypfp.org.

Eligibility and Requirements:

  • YPFP Member (dues-paying), based in Washington, D.C.

  • Passion for expanding YPFP’s reputation in the foreign policy community.

  • Excellent interpersonal and cross-organizational communications skills.

  • Ability to handle multiple activities, manage priorities and meet tight time-lines.

  • Ability to attend a membership department staff meeting once per month.

  • Minimum commitment of 5 to 10 hours per week, availability to attend meetings and events on weeknights (after 5 pm), and the ability to respond to email inquiries in 48 hours under normal circumstances.

  • One year commitment to position.
