Junior Specialist in European Union Energy Policy

CECED, the European Committee of Domestic Equipment Manufacturers, is looking for a Junior Specialist in energy policy to join its team based in Brussels. CECED represents the common interests of the household appliance manufacturers in Europe. CECED has 18 Direct Members and 25 National Associations representing 24 countries. It promotes the industry's mission to increase appliance performance while reducing its impact on the environment. It plays an active role in the fields of energy efficiency, e-waste, resources, safety and standardisation. Junior Specialist in European Union Energy PolicyYou will work on EU advocacy issues and play a supporting role on all aspects of EU energy policy and legislation relevant to the household appliance sector: energy efficiency, energy labelling, smart grids. You are an independent, well-organised worker, with some experience in project management, a good communicator with a positive attitude and a strong sense of teamwork and the ability to adjust easily to changing circumstances. Main responsibilities:

  • Support in developing and executing advocacy on main European energy priorities, in close coordination with the CECED membership
  • Support in promoting and representing the household appliance sector towards the European Institutions
  • Support in intelligence gathering, monitoring legislative developments relevant to the industry, informing members
  • Support in writing position papers and presentations and defending them towards the EU decision makers and other stakeholders
  • Support in coordinating advocacy positions with national and other European industry associations
  • Support in managing working groups
  • Preparation of meeting agendas, minutes, presentations, documents and logistics

Professional experience:

  • 1-3 years’ experience in EU affairs, preferably in Brussels
  • Ideally internships in European institutions and/or national public authorities
  • Good knowledge of the EU institutions and the decision-making process
  • Good knowledge and understanding of EU energy policy issues
  • Previous professional experience in a trade/industry association or with the household appliance sector considered as a strong asset


  • Relevant Bachelor or Master’s Degree: Economics, Environmental, or Political Science preferred
  • A scientific education will be considered if supported by education and/or experience in the European political environment

Technical skills:

  • Good level of general computer literacy: MS Office, presentations, spreadsheets, databases
  • Project management and presentation skills
  • Good analytical skills and an ability to assimilate the various aspects of an issue rapidly
  • Good skills to both write and edit engaging reports, briefing and position papers

Personal qualities:

  • Independent, able to work autonomously as well as with a team
  • Flexible, ability to work on a number or projects simultaneously and to manage competing demands and deadlines
  • Capacity to work effectively in cross-cultural and diverse stakeholder environment
  • Ability to manage relationships with colleagues and members constructively, diplomatically and with discretion
  • Comfortable speaking in public and to large groups


  • Fluent English (both spoken and written)
  • Other major European languages an asset
