Intern/Project Assistant - Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning Initiative


Job Description

The National Democratic Institute for International Affairs (NDI) seeks a graduate student with a strong interest in monitoring and evaluating democracy and governance programming. This is a full-time (40 hours), paid internship beginning in end of May 2014 and ending in September 2014. The intern will be a member of the Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning (MEL) Team. The intern’s work will contribute to a larger initiative to enhance performance monitoring, evaluation and learning at NDI, a nonprofit organization working to strengthen and expand democracy worldwide. The intern will support the MEL Team in the global delivery of M&E training and capacity building.

Job Responsibilities

Supporting M&E learning and capacity building:

  • Maintain and support the refinement of an online M&E portal, M&E toolbox, and interactive learning materials (i.e. blog, wiki, e-learning Elluminate presentations, and interactive guides);

  • Track the use of online tools and resources;

  • Support the online M&E Community of Practice (COP) including scheduling events, moderating webinars, maintaining listservs and newsletters, and generally interfacing with field-based COP members; and

  • Support in-person NDI staff training and orientation on monitoring and evaluation.


Administration and Logistics:

  • Assist in coordinating M&E working groups, virtual groups, and committees as needed;

  • Complete travel and logistics arrangements; and

  • Organize team meeting minutes and case management records.

Job Requirements

  • Pursuing or recently completed a graduate degree in development studies, public policy, political science, international affairs, non-profit management, organizational learning, educational media, social science or a related field, at the time of participation in the internship;

  • Strong background in applying new technology and software;

  • Experience developing and/or maintaining e-learning tools and resources a plus;

  • Experience supporting or managing online professional communities a plus;

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;

  • Proficiency in French, Spanish, or Arabic strongly preferred;

  • Outstanding organizational and administrative abilities;

  • Able to prioritize and manage multiple tasks;

  • Flexible, conscientious and team-oriented.
