Intern/Project Assistant - Development and Executive Office


Job Description

The National Democratic Institute for International Affairs (NDI) is seeking candidates currently enrolled in undergraduate and graduate programs, as well as recent graduates, for an internship to assist the Institute's Development and Executive Offices with fundraising operations, including on-going donor research, and special event organizing for Summer 2014.  Candidate must have the ability to interact effectively and professionally with all levels of staff, visitors, and international political figures. Position requires a commitment of 8 hours per day, Monday through Friday, between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Work with members of the team to organize the 2014 Madeleine K. Albright Grant luncheon

  • Assist in organizing small development events;

  • Research corporations, foundations and individuals according to set guidelines

  • Update computerized database of contacts, donors and prospects;

  • Record minutes/notes at various in-house meetings and draft summary memos;

  • Organize mailing of information;

  • Assist with scheduling and travel arrangements for members of Executive Office;

  • Respond to requests for information regarding NDI’s programs;

  • Provide administrative assistance to both the Development team and Executive office; and

  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications

  • Pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree, or recent graduate;

  • Demonstrated interest in international issues, politics, and/or fundraising;

  • Strong communications skills;

  • Organized and efficient;

  • Ability to work independently and with others in a fast-paced office;

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously;

  • Computer literate, including Word, Internet and databases;

  • Experience with Raiser’s Edge preferred; and

  • Available 40 hours per week.
