Job Description

The United States Military Academy has openings for two Instructor/Assistant Professors (Research Associates) in the Combating Terrorism Center, Department of Social Sciences, West Point, New York.  Duties include conducting research and analysis of strategic counterterrorism issues for the Combating Terrorism Center (CTC) at the US Military Academy, an accredited 4-year undergraduate college.

Job Duties

Applicants must demonstrate confidence in their public speaking and teaching skills.  You will be expected to teach classes to cadets which are offered in the CTC’s Terrorism Studies Program.  You may also be expected to teach in the Practitioner Education Program to provide government personnel with the education and intellectual tools they need to understand and combat terrorism threats.  The teaching load will be approximately one course per semester.  This is a 13-month term appointment in the excepted service with employment to begin in the summer of 2013.  Opportunity for extension beyond 13 month appointment exists based on performance.  Competitive salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience at the Academic Rank of Instructor or Assistant Professor.

Job Requirements

Applicants must hold a Master’s degree or higher that included or was supplemented by major study in education or in a subject matter field appropriate to the position (security studies, political science, public policy, sociology, or closely related field).

Applicants will be evaluated on the following:  1) academic accomplishment (a Master’s degree or higher that includes major study in security studies, political science, public policy, sociology, or closely related field); 2) research accomplishments in his/her respective discipline relevant to political violence (expertise or field work in the Middle East, South Asia, and/or select areas of Africa are preferred  but not required); 3) communications skills (foreign language skills are highly desirable, especially Urdu, Pashtu, Farsi, African dialects, and Arabic); 4) experience in intelligence or interagency environment working in counterterrorism field is preferred.
