Executive Director, NYC Branch (Volunteer Position)

Position Description:

YPFP is currently seeking an unpaid volunteer to serve as the Executive Director of its New York City (NYC) branch. The Executive Director is the organization’s senior representative in New York City and is responsible for leading a team of 19 volunteers in six different departments (Programming, Membership, Public Service, Strategy, Development, and Communications and Social Media) who serve nearly 1,000 YPFP members in New York City. The Executive Director also works closely with YPFP leadership in Washington to coordinate the organization’s strategy, fundraising, and integration efforts with YPFP branches in Washington, Brussels, and London.

  • Exceptional leadership ability and enthusiasm for enhancing team performance and morale; a deep appreciation of team dynamics; and the ability to inspire and influence others to excel
  • Managerial skills and experience, and proven ability to motivate and mobilize individuals and resources to achieve measurable objectives
  • Superb attention to detail, capacity for efficient multi-tasking, and ability to delegate tasks effectively
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills, and proven ability to deliver complex presentations to varied audiences in persuasive manner
  • Must be located in New York City
  • Must be able to respond to YPFP emails promptly and consistently
  • Must be available for meetings and events on evenings and weekends
  • Proficiency with Gmail, basic web editing, PowerPoint, social media (Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, etc), and relevant Google Apps (shared documents, sites, forms, etc.) is desirable. Training is available.
  • Must be able to make a significant time commitment for a term of one year

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Represent YPFP in New York City, and develop and implement a vision and strategy for the success of YPFP NYC, in coordination with YPFP NYC’s Managing Director, the Board of Directors, YPFP’s President, YPFP’s Vice Presidents, and Global Operations
  • Work closely with YPFP NYC’s Development team to explore, develop, and maintain relationships with donors, partners, and members, by attracting them to the mission of YPFP
  • Manage YPFP NYC branch volunteers by serving as a resource, advisor, expert, and mentor for staff members to improve the quality, consistency, and efficiency of YPFP NYC departmental activities
  • Lead periodic meetings with staff and participate in regular events that feature foreign policy leaders and experts
  • Work closely with YPFP NYC’s Managing Director to develop and implement an annual operational plan for the branch that contributes to the local and global goals of YPFP
  • Communicate regularly with the DC-based Global Operations department on the status and health of the branch and liaises with members of other DC-based departments when necessary
  • Work with headquarters to implement consistent processes and activities around the world
