Communications Associate

Job Description

The U.S. Global Leadership Coalition (USGLC) is seeking an experienced Communications Associate with strong writing abilities to help advance our mission to elevate and strengthen America’s civilian-led, smart power instruments of global development and diplomacy. This position will take a lead role on the communications team developing the internal communications voice of the USGLC by crafting messages, producing written and electronic communications, and assisting in message dissemination.  The position will report to the Communications Director and reside in Washington, D.C. 

Job Responsibilities: 

External Communications Writer – Writer for organization’s externalcommunications, including customized email communications to a range of targeted audiences.  Monitor response and adjust strategy as necessary to ensure maximum reach.  Manage distribution and schedule of e-communications. Knowledge of WordPress and Convio a plus. 

Media Outreach and Coordination – Assist in writing of opinion editorials,press releases, fact sheets, talking points, and other communicationsmaterials, and regular Global Impact Blog postings.  Assist in development and implementation of overall press strategy for events and campaigns. 

Social Media Strategy and Development – Assist in development of social media strategy within the organization, with existing and/or new tools. Create content and develop campaigns for USGLC social media components, including the Global Impact Blog, and Twitter and Facebook accounts. 

Assist Communications Director – Provide support to the Communications Director in outreach, news monitoring, press events and other assignments as necessary. 

Job Requirements: 

The position requires at least 2-4 years of media and communicationsexperience in a non-profit, campaign, trade association, Congressional office or similar environment.  Excellent writing and organization skills,experience with bulk email distribution systems such as Convio, and strong understanding of social media, advocacy and politics required. Knowledge of international development and foreign affairs a plus. Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
