Analyst, North Africa

Our renowned expertise, the breadth of our services and the geographical reach of our organisation enables us to help our clients meet their challenges and realise new business opportunities across the world.  Position DescriptionThis Dubai-based role involves contributing to Control Risks’ analytical coverage of North Africa (Mauritania to Egypt) for our two leading subscription products; delivering in-depth bespoke consulting reports and briefings to clients; providing expert comment to the media; participating in conferences and other events; and mentoring junior members of our growing team. It also involves travel within the region and close collaboration with other service lines and global network of offices. Roles and Responsibilities 

  • Expand and maintain an in-depth knowledge of country and 
  • regional expertise through open source and social media; 
  • attendance at seminars and industry events; and research trips. 
  • Identify and manage a network of regional contacts to be utilised 
  • as subcontractors and stringers when required. 
  • Online and retainer services: 
  • Responsible for our analysis and coverage for one or more key 
  • countries in North Africa. 
  • Contribute to daily updates for Country Risk Forecast (CRF) and 
  • PRIME on relevant developments in the region. 
  • Respond to subscriber and client queries about the region. 
  • Liaise with our joint venture Travel Security Services (TSS) to 
  • ensure timely and unambiguous advice on business continuity 
  • and travel. 
  • Liaise with our global issues desk to ensure consistency on 
  • international topics. Contribute to multi-country research projects. 
  • Produce regular, high quality analysis and forecasting notes on a 
  • range of topics relevant to companies in the region.  
  • Undertake research and analysis for bespoke consulting 
  • engagements and projects in conjunction with other members of 
  • the GRA MENA department. 
  • Write bespoke political, security and operational risk 
  • assessments on North Africa for clients, in close collaboration 
  • with other members of the GRA MENA department. 
  • Assist in writing proposals for work on the North Africa region, in 
  • consultation with the GRA MENA department’s analysts and 
  • consultants.  
  • Identify business opportunities in the region and further afield for 
  • the company in general and GRA in particular. 
  • Contribute to promotional activities, press releases and sales 
  • initiatives. 
  • Represent GRA and Control Risks at relevant conferences and 
  • seminars. 
  • Undertake media work as requested by Marketing. 
  • Networking and sources: 
  • Develop and maintain government, academic, journalistic and 
  • business contacts in the region. 
  • Identify organisations or companies that can expand the depth 
  • and range of services Control Risks provides to its clients. 
  • Interact regularly with Control Risks offices in the region. 
  • Share and obtain information from Control Risks security 
  • consultants deployed on assignments in portfolio countries. 

Eligibility and Requirements 


  • Knowledge and understanding of key political, operational and 
  • security risk issues in North Africa (Mauritania to Egypt). 
  • An ability to undertake research into a wide range of different 
  • political, commercial and security issues in North Africa. 
  • Familiarity with business-focused research and analysis. 
  • Academic or professional training in political or security analysis. 


  • Knowledge and understanding of key political, operational and 
  • security risk issues in key markets in the broader Middle East. 

Qualifications and Specialist Skills Essential 

  • Masters’ degree (or equivalent) in relevant discipline. 
  • Proficiency in English, Arabic and French. 
  • Experience living, working or travelling in North Africa. 
  • Ability to write concisely and authoritatively to deadlines while 
  • interacting with colleagues and clients in challenging situations. 
  • Professional experience in political, security and/or operational 
  • risk analysis. 
  • Ability to identify and interpret events and developments of 
  • interest or concern to Control Risks’ client base. 


  • Experience conducting business in North Africa and the broader 
  • Middle East or advising companies operating in this region.
