Advanced Analytics Lab Intern: Social Media Focus

Position description                                             

The Social Media Intern will work alongside other analysts and be privy to internal training events, BAE Systems seminars, and potentially, external conferences. S/he will be assigned a mentor as a resource and to ensure academic metrics are met. . The successful candidate will be a naturally inquisitive, self-starter with a strong interest in conducting research and producing reporting in support of national security customers. S/he will be asked to contribute to a variety of pilot projects being conducted in a lab environment designed to allow staff to enhance and develop analytic tradecraft and tools.

Specific Roles and Responsibilities

  • Research, document and communicate information related to social media platform development, usage, demographics, and relevance to Advanced Analytics Lab operations;
  • Seek out new data sources, ingest into Lab environment 
  • Work closely with analysts to ensure tools are calibrated for optimal performance national security-related data sets;
  • Assist team with tool evaluation 
  • Develop creative solutions to current issues and emerging consumer needs;
  • Collaborate with colleagues to enhance internal capabilities and training programs

Eligibility & Requirements

  • Experience using a variety of social media platforms
  • Familiarity with tools that monitor, measure and analyze social media
  • Strong web-based research skills
  • Familiarity with generalized data ingest, ontology and data cataloging
  • Enrollment in a graduate-level program in the D.C.-Metro Area
  • Ability to work independently or on a small team of diverse skill sets
  • Ability to work in a dynamic and fluid R&D environment against often ambiguous requirements
  • Ability to work part-time in Lorton, VA
  • Familiarity with various file formats, streaming media formats and programming languages
  • Experience with data visualization applications and graphic design programs
  • Familiarity with Big Data and MapReduce-based frameworks
  • Foreign language experience a plus 
  • Understanding of national security community
  • Eligible to obtain a TS/SCI security clearance
