Advanced Analytics Lab Intern: Critical Infrastructure Protection Focus

Position Description

The Critical Infrastructure Protection Intern will work alongside other analysts and be privy to internal training events, BAE Systems seminars, and potentially, external conferences. S/he will be assigned a mentor as a resource and to ensure academic metrics are met. The successful candidate will be a naturally inquisitive, self-starter with a strong interest in developing innovative, open source tradecraft designed to benefit private sector security departments. The Critical Infrastructure Protection Intern will be asked to contribute to a variety of pilot projects being conducted in a lab environment designed to allow staff to enhance and develop analytic tradecraft and tool

Specific Roles and Responsibilities

  • Translate project requirements and customer requests for information into rigorous and repeatable analytic methodologies; 
  • Perform web-based research related to critical infrastructure threats, vulnerabilities and consequences of impact;
  • Produce customized reports that convey timely and relevant analysis;
  • Engage with BAE Systems partners and / or customers as necessary;
  • Collaborate with colleagues to enhance internal capabilities and training programs.

Eligibility & Requirements

  • Experience studying critical infrastructure protection (one or more sectors)
  • Strong open source research skills
  • Experience manipulating and combining large amounts of qualitative and quantitative data, in various formats, into an integrated and targeted analytical approach
  • Ability to work independently or on a small team of diverse skill sets
  • Ability to work in a dynamic and fluid R&D environment against often ambiguous requirements
  • Enrollment in an accredited graduate-level program in the D.C.-Metro Area
  • Ability to work part-time in Lorton, VA
  • Topical knowledge of oil and gas industry
  • Prior experience supporting private sector security departments
  • Understanding of national security community
  • Familiarity with tools that monitor, measure and analyze social media
  • Experience with various analytical and visualization applications
  • Eligible to obtain a TS/SCI security clearance Foreign Language proficiency a plus
