Job Description - The successful candidate will work as a member of the Press and Public Affairs (PPA) team leading on the overall strategy and delivery of digital communication for all the UK Mission’s work at the United Nations.


Job Responsibilities

The post holder will join a team of four responsible for communicating UK government policy objectives and actions at the UN to the UK and international press as well as the wider public.  The team’s work covers the breadth of UKMIS priorities including international peace and security, development and human rights.  The PPA team has a strong reputation with journalists, other Missions and the UN for being a go-to source of information on the top issues of the day as well as using creative digital tools and ideas for promoting UK objectives.  It is a busy, high-energy team, at the heart of the Mission.

The post holder will be responsible for developing and delivering a digital strategy across the existing digital channels – Twitter, Tumblr, UK Mission website – as well as exploring new platforms and channels.  The post holder will lead on the production of content for the digital channels, creating a balance of visual and textual content.  The post holder will be the main point of contact for digital training across the Mission as well as monitoring and evaluating digital campaigns and routine activity.

  • Day to day management of the UK Mission’s digital channels – Twitter, Tumblr, Website

  • Production of content for digital channels including tweets, graphics, videos and blogs

  • Monitoring and evaluation of digital work

  • Training for all Mission staff on use of digital media

  • Support to Mission Leadership on their personal Twitter accounts

  • Occasional cover for Press Secretary or Deputy Press Secretary


Job Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have a strong track record in delivering results, juggling competing tasks and priorities and working as a team player.

 Essential characteristics:

  • Bachelors degree or minimum of two years work experience in a relevant field;

  • Experience of managing social media channels

  • Proficiency in Photoshop and Illustrator

  • Experience of video editing and use of Premiere or Final Cut X software

  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to work independently as well as part of a larger team;

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills;

  • Ability to work flexibly and adapt to changing priorities across a range of tasks and responsibilities that require long-term planning as well as reaction to urgent day-to-day developments;

 Desirable characteristics:

  • Public sector experience;

  • Knowledge of the work of the UN;

  • Familiarity with the UK Government.
