YPFP is happy to announce that in partnership with the American Red Cross (ARC), we would like to invite you to a special two hour course, Introduction to International Humanitarian Law (IHL), conducted by members of the ARC’s international legal team. This 60-90 minute course is designed to introduce international practitioners, such as Foreign Service Officers, USG civil service staff, World Bank employees, Congressional staffers, and members of the international media, on IHL issues. The course will cover the two cardinal principles of military necessity and humanity, the framework of the Geneva Conventions and Additional Protocols, conflict classification, and distinctions between civilians and combatants
The American Red Cross has agreed to conduct this session free of charge, but donations to support the great work that the ARC does throughout the country and the globe are welcome https://www.redcross.org/quickdonate/index.jsp. Please note that a donation is not mandatory to participate in the session. If you find yourself interested in learning more about IHL, the ARC offers full day sessions as well that provide a more in depth look at the topic and a certification upon completion (as well as Continuing Legal Education credit). Please email email@example.com for more information on the full day course.
Please note that this event has a very limited capacity, so we ask that you consider your availability carefully before you RSVP. We will be starting a waitlist in the occasion that all spots are filled. If you need to cancel your RSVP or would like to be put on waitlist, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org . Attendees need to be registered at least 48 hours prior to the session for check in, so RSVPs will close November 11th. .
