Young Professionals in Foreign Policy (YPFP) is committed to fostering the next generation of foreign policy leaders by providing its members with the knowledge, skills, exposure, and relationships they will need to tackle critical global challenges over the course of their careers. YPFP is a dynamic, global, nonpartisan, nonprofit organization with 10,000 selected members around the world who work in all fields of international affairs. It was established in 2004, and is headquartered in Washington, DC, with branches in Brussels, London, and New York.

Position Overview:

YPFP is currently seeking a Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) Associate. YPFP’s continued growth internationally has increased our need to collaborate more globally, and expand our capabilities to meet the challenges of the globalization of our expenses. The associate will serve a vital role engaging in the professional development of the YPFP staff. As part of the organization’s finance team and reporting to the Director of Finance, the associate will work closely across all departments of the organization to develop and implement financial policies and procedures. The incumbent will be heavily involved in compiling of the organization’s balance sheet and in the annual budget and decision-making process. Though some day-to-day operational finance task will be required, such as help the accountant keep accurate track of our month-to-month finances and provide reimbursements to our staff, this opportunity is ideal to build up strategic-thinking and management skills across functions.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Run monthly reports and reconcile monthly financial statements.

  • Helps to prepare financial and budget analyses for discussion with staff and to prevent overruns.

  • Reviews and tracks invoice vouchers, expense reports and purchase orders, prepares reimbursements and international cost transfers.

  • Prepares monthly financial reports and performs analyses. May create budget databases to assist in development of reports.

  • Investigates and resolves outstanding financial issues.

  • Corresponds with the Operations Team to assist in the financial management of YPFP activities.

  • Serves as a resource to staff concerning financial matters.

  • Assists in training new staff on administrative and accounting rules.

Eligibility & Requirements:

  • Current, dues-paying YPFP member

  • Based in the Washington, DC area
  • The ability to dedicate up to 10 hours per week to YPFP

  • The ability to gather, review and analyze financial data

  • Innovative thinking and business-changing recommendations

  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills; sound judgment

  • Self-motivated team player

  • Experience in accounting preferred but not required

  • Knowledge of basic Google applications
