YPFP London: An Evening with Alex Ellis, Director for Strategy, Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO)

Join YPFP London for an exclusive talk with Mr Alex Ellis, Director for Strategy at the FCO. Mr Ellis will share his experiences and discuss in detail what he has learnt about the world, and the British government’s approach to international affairs.
Speaker profile: Alex Ellis has been Director for Strategy at the Foreign Office since the start of 2011. Previously he had spent time mainly in Brussels as adviser to the President of the European Commission on energy, climate change, competition, development, and trade and strategy. Prior to working for the President of the European Commission, Alex worked in the UK Representation to the EU, working on financial issues as well as institutional reform.
Alex began his career in the FCO as part of the team supporting the transition to multi-party democracy in South Africa, following the release of Nelson Mandela.
Additional Postings saw Alex heading the EU and Economics team at the British Embassy in Madrid, and the Foreign Office’s team for the negotiations for the 2004 EU enlargement and EU/Turkey relations.
In October 2012, Alex was nominated British Ambassador to Brazil, and will take up his appointment in July 2013. His previous Ambassadorial Post was Portugal (2007- 2010).
