Event description: YPFP London is delighted to invite you to an exclusive discussion with the Deputy Chief of Mission of the US Embassy, Ms Barbara Stephenson.

The first Obama administration provided foreign policy professionals with much to debate: the new rhetoric and changing attitude towards the Muslim word, the decision not to push for peace in the Middle East and the involvement in Libya, the pivot to Asia and the “droneification” of the fight against terrorism. Chances are the next four years will be no less controversial, thought provoking and challenging.

Please join us at the US Embassy for an exclusive look back and a discussion of what is to come. With her wealth of experience, Ms Barbara Stephenson, Deputy Chief of Mission, is ideally placed to offer first-hand insights into US foreign policy and a practitioner’s view on how it is implemented on the ground.

Speaker profile: Barbara J. Stephenson has served as Minister at the United States Embassy in London since August 25, 2010. Before her assignment to London, Ms Stephenson served as the U.S. Ambassador to Panama.

Ms Stephenson, who holds the rank of Minister Counsellor in the Senior Foreign service, joined the Department in 1985. She also served as Deputy Senior Advisor to the Secretary and Deputy Coordinator for Iraq at the U.S. Department of State.

In addition to postings in Belfast and Curacao, Ms Stephenson has served as special assistant to Under Secretaries for Political Affairs Peter Tarnoff and Tom Pickering, covering European affairs, including the Balkans.

PLEASE NOTE: Registration does not guarantee admission to the event. You will receive a separate email approximately a week ahead of the event informing you whether you have been successful or not.
