United States

The Foreign Service is certainly a career unlike any other. Foreign Service Officers are public servants working around the world while experiencing different cultures, customs and people as core members of the US diplomatic missions.

Join Young Professionals in Foreign Policy and The International Student House as we host a fascinating conversation with US diplomats about the rewards and challenges of the job. From working with Syrian refugees in Turkey to combating the drug trade in Tajikistan, our panelists will share stories from diplomatic posts and discuss conducting American foreign policy in the 21st century.

The panelists include:

Tom Yazdgerdi, Political Officer, Political Section Chief in Kabul starting summer 2013

David McCawley, Consular Officer, in charge of consular operations in Vietnam

Ana Himelic, Public Diplomacy Officer, who is newly assigned to the Department’s Human Rights Bureau

Hans Wechsel, Political Officer, Deputy Political Section Chief in Kabul starting summer 2013; and

Darren Thies, Public Diplomacy Officer, who just completed his post in Dushanbe, Tajikistan.
