YPFP DC: DC Central Kitchen Public Service Event

August 18, 2013 09:00 am

Location

425 2nd St NW Washington D.C.
United States

Put the “service” back into public service by joining your YPFP
colleagues to help feed DC’s homeless and hungry at DC Central Kitchen
Sunday 18 August 9am-12pm.

YPFP espouses the notion that service abroad begins with service at
home, in our local community, and we hope you’ll join us for our
annual pilgrimage to DC’s famed Central Kitchen for a few hours of
making grub for local people in need.

DC Central Kitchen combines food recovery from local restaurants,
farms and events with meal preparation and job training to provide
needed assistance in the broader DC area.  With its 24 year history in
DC and excellent reputation, group volunteer slots go six months in
advance.  But -- 26 slots are available for YPFP members on Sunday 18
August.  Sign-ups will be accommodated on a first-come, first-served
basis here [include link to our webpage].  Volunteers will meet at DC
Central Kitchen at 8:30 for coffee, pastries, meet and greet and
ice-breakers before a required volunteer orientation at 8:45.*

*DC Central kitchen is located at 425 2nd St NW (2nd and E streets)
near the Judiciary Square Stop on the Redline.  Volunteers are asked
to wear close-toed shoes, long pants and shirts with sleeves (no
tank-tops).
