YPFP Brussels: Tools of the Trade - Think Tanks
WHAT: YPFP Tools of the Trade Workshop - Think Tanks, with Vivien Petrusot, Head of Brussels Office, French Institute of International Relations
WHEN: Wednesday 27 March, 18:45-20:15
WHERE: IFRI - the French Institute of International Relations, Rue Marie-Thérèse, 21, 1000 Brussels
WHO: Paying members of YPFP
Due to its overuse, "think tank" is a buzz word that is rarely properly understood. Think-tanking in fact requires a fine degree of agility as the sector is increasingly muddled with others, such as advocacy, consultancy etc. However, differences and specific skills stand out and this session will explore what they are and how being a think tanker differs from other jobs whose core skills also rely on bringing ideas forward.
Vivien Pertusot is Head of the Brussels Office for the French Institute for International Relations since September 2011. He has previously worked for Ifri in Paris, NATO and Carnegie Europe. Vivien holds a Master's degree from King's College London and the Institute of International and Strategic Relations in Paris, and specialises in European political affairs and European defence policies.
HOW AM I SELECTED?
A computer will randomly choose the participants from the paid members who have registered. A confirmation email will be sent out to each successful recipient and a waiting list will be created for the rest.
Out of respect towards our speakers we ask you to attend the full session of the workshop. If you have other commitments that evening and plan to leave the event earlier, we ask you kindly to sign up for another workshop, where you are able to commit 100 percent of your time.
Nb. To offer a fair chance to other members wishing to participate in this series, the 25 participants of this Tools of the Trade event will be ineligible for our next event in the series. While we can never guarantee everyone a place, please make sure that you are applying for a workshop you wish to attend.
WHAT IS TOOLS OF THE TRADE?
YPFP Brussels Tools of the Trade workshop series focuses on three relevant areas: skill development, career advancement and general knowledge needed in today’s market. The objective of Tools of the Trade is to provide tangible knowledge, practical skills and fresh ideas related to careers in foreign policy professions.
The workshop is designed to be interactive, featuring a speaker discussing a technical subject related to their profession. Insights, advice and tips are imparted to members regarding the speakers’ career path and current role.
Each workshop is 1.5 hours, including discussion and questions. To ensure the motivation and engagement of participants, the workshops are designed for a small group of YPFP paying members only. These sessions take place under the Chatham House rule.
