On 1 July 2012, Cyprus will assume the EU Presidency at a time of great political and economic turmoil, in Europe and around the world. The Middle East is simultaneously on fire (Syria) and frozen (Palestine). An increasingly antagonistic Russia is more and more unwilling to cooperate with the West on the pressing geopolitical issues of the day. Finally, numerous leadership tranisitions in China, the USA, Egypt and Venezuela will bring new dynamics and personalities to the global stage. These are just three of many foreign policy issues to which the world expects the EU, with Cyprus at its helm, to formulate a coherent response over the next six months.

With its second Ambassador Series event, YPFP Brussels is delighted to have the opportunity to discuss the upcoming Cypriot presidency with H.E. Louis Telemachou, Representative of the Republic of Cyprus to the EU Political and Security Committee. This timely conversation promises to provide insight into what Cyprus sees as being the EU’s foreign policy priorities over the upcoming six months and how it intends to assert Europe’s influence on the international stage, and we do hope you will be able to join us on Tuesday, 12 June 2012! The event will be followed by a drinks reception graciously offered by our hosts.

Sign up to attend the event by Thursday, 7 June 2012, as places are limited. We will send out confirmation emails then.
