YPFP & Allen & Overy LLP: The International Politics of Offshore Finance
YPFP London & Allen & Overy LLP: The International Politics of Offshore Finance
When: Monday, 16 September 2013
Where: Allen & Overy LLP, One Bishops Square, London E1 6AD
Coined in the 1980s, the term "Offshore Financial Centre" has been the focus of much debate, as jurisdictions providing financial services to non-residents have proliferated in the last thirty years. Looking beyond the mists of banking secrecy and beneficial taxation normally associated with OFCs and financial transactions using offshore vehicles, we will offer insight into the purposes - legitimate or questionable - for using OFCs, the reasons for their popularity and the impact they have on cross border finance in an increasingly interconnected world.
Join our panel of speakers to discuss the key issues raised by the use of offshore financing structures and OFCs in light of the recent political, legal and moral debate on these matters.
- Mr. Richard Murphy, whose pathbreaking advocacy efforts through the Tax Justice Network and Tax Research LLP for financial transparency have themselves been the focus of much attention.
- Mr. Richard J. Hay, Partner at Stikeman Elliot and expert in international tax advising on regulatory and political risk for a range of clients including the IFC Forum (established to provide information on small International Financial Centres).
Further panellists are to be confirmed.
The discussions will be followed by a drinks reception kindly hosted by our sponsors, Allen & Overy LLP.
