Join us at the Royal Netherlands Embassy for an engaging discussion on the role foreign trade has played in the success of the Dutch economy, considered by many to be one of the world’s most open free-market economies. The talk will focus on the transatlantic ties between the United States and the Netherlands, and by extension the European Union given that the EU-US trade relationship is the biggest in the world. The discussion will pay special attention to Dutch economic policies, the historic and future ties to the US, as well as the Dutch views on the Pivot to Asia.

Peter Mollema is the deputy chief of mission for the Royal Netherlands Embassy in the United States, overseeing the Political Department. Besides his responsibilities in day-to-day maintenance of the embassy, he is responsible for matters of foreign policy, including economics. Deputy Chief Mollema previously served as the Deputy Director of Communications and Press Relations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in The Hague, Spokesman and First Secretary of Political Affairs at the Netherlands Permanent Representation to the United Nations, and Head of the Political Section of the Netherlands Embassy in Jakarta. Currently, he holds a Master of Arts in Social-Economic History from the University of Groningen.
