The Shangri-La Dialogue, an annual meeting of Defense Ministers from the Asia-Pacific region, was held in Singapore from May 30-June 1, 2008. Participants discussed ways to channel and develop more effective strategies for a region undergoing significant shifts in its security architecture.How can the U.S. create meaningful security and defense policies in Asia in these uncertain times? How should U.S. policymakers engage with Asian countries on issues such as climate change, counterterrorism, and nuclear proliferation?
