The language of democratization has dominated the discussion of foreign policy during the Bush Administration. The idea of democratization as a foundation for U.S. foreign policy has gained new life in recent years, yet it is certainly not a new idea. What are the roots of this idea? How has it been implemented in the past and did these efforts succeed? How have current efforts changed ideas about the implementation of democratization programs?
