From CETA to TTIP, Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) have never been more controversial. What are the advantages of these agreements for the economy and for society, and what could the negative consequences be? How will Brexit affect future FTAs for the UK and for the EU? The recent EU-Singapore Free Trade Agreement (EUSFTA), which introduced a wider scope for such agreements, covering more than the usual "pure" trade areas, will need the approval of the national parliaments of the EU's Member States.
Should the EU's exclusive competences be widened to facilitate the conclusion of such Agreements, or should certain subjects require national approval? More EU or less? More FTAs or fewer? These exciting questions will be discussed at our next Discussion Group! Some background reading will be provided upon registration.
