Director, Global Operations

Young Professionals in Foreign Policy (YPFP) is seeking a Director, Global Operations . The Director, Global Operations is responsible for the process implementation and market strategy behind YPFP’s Global Presence Initiative (GPI) . This role is vital to YPFP's mission and requires an entrepreneurial, proactive leader with a global mindset and proven track record in development and business strategy.

Conceived in 2012, YPFP’s Global Presence Initiative is designed to drive YPFP’s expansion into new cities and countries. The YPFP Ambassadors program is the primary way that YPFP identifies new, globally-minded leaders in strategically important cities around the world. Ambassadors are chosen from the private, public, and civil sectors and serve to further YPFP's mission of fostering the next generation of foreign policy leaders in communities around the world. Once identified, Ambassadors host YPFP-branded events in their cities, contribute to YPFP’s online presence and thought leadership, and build YPFP’s membership base in their local community.

Position Description:

The Director, Global Operations is responsible for both the strategy and execution of YPFP’s expansion into new cities and communities and the management of existing hubs across the globe. The Director of Global Operations will manage and oversee the activities of the New Hub Development team and the Hub Operations team. The Director, Global Operations reports to the Vice President (VP) and Managing Director (MD) of Membership.


  • Design the Global Presence Strategy for 2016-2017: Coordinate with YPFP Executive Team and VP, Membership to identify geographic targets, existing global contacts, available funding, and preferred approaches

  • Provide Leadership and an Entrepreurial Mindset for the Global Operations Team: Spearhead the implementation of YPFP’s Global Operations strategy. Equal parts leader and manager, the Director, Global Operations, will balance vision and execution in a start-up type environment; manage a team of outreach coordinators tasked with supporting existing hubs ;and conceive the course for hub development and maturation through the YPFP business cycle

  • Build a Robust, Global YPFP Constituency: Develop and maintain key long-term relationships with Global supporters and Ambassador prospects


  • Participate in weekly/bi-weekly strategy sessions with YPFP Executive Team and VP, Membership

  • Update VP, Membership on outreach/development status and any challenges needing Executive Staff support

  • Liaise with other YPFP functional areas to support the operations of our established ambassadors/hubs

Eligibility & Requirements:

  • Current, dues-paying YPFP Young Professionals member

  • Must be able to dedicate at least 14-20 hours per week to YPFP; commitment of 1 year to the role

  • Must have prior program and project management experience

  • Outstanding cross-cultural communication skills

  • Self-motivated team player with a global mindset and creative energy

  • Prior experience in nonprofit management, business development, brand management or global engagement (international business experience preferred)

  • Overseas experience in Africa, Latin America, Middle East Southeast Asia, East Asia, or Eastern Europe (foreign language proficiency is preferred)

  • Outstanding ability to market to a wide audience and clearly articulate YPFP’s value proposition to Ambassadors

  • Experience working in a start-up or nonprofit environment preferred
