Communications Associate - AidData

AidData is a research and innovation lab making information on development finance more accessible and actionable. Tracking more than $6 trillion dollars from 90+ donor agencies, AidData undertakes cutting-edge research on aid distribution and impact, geocodes and crowdsources aid information, and develops applications and custom data solutions for diverse stakeholders. The AidData team works with a wide range of partner organizations to collect, visualize, and analyze development finance for more effective development policy, practice, and research.

 

Job Description:

The person who fills this role should have excellent written and verbal communications skills and a strategic mindset. We value self-starters and big ideas.

 

Job Responsibilities: 

In this position, you will carry out a range of responsibilities including managing AidData’s social media presence across various platforms (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Google Plus, Flickr, YouTube), editing blog posts and maintaining the editorial calendar for AidData’s blog, writing news articles and blog posts for partners, capturing photos and video at organization events, managing distribution lists, making newsletters and email campaigns, and designing outreach materials. AidData’s Communications Associate will support the AidData Communications and Policy Outreach team, reporting to the team’s Director.

 

Job Qualifications:

Required Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in International Relations, Government, Communications, English, or related field

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams in a fast-paced and dynamic environment

  • Ability to work effectively both autonomously and as a team player influencing others' attitudes and behaviors through example

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Documents and Google Calendar

  • Innovative, flexible, strong work ethic

 

Exceptional Education & Experience:

  • Graphic design/multimedia production experience

  • Experience managing social media accounts for a brand or organization

  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite – specifically InDesign, Photoshop, Premium Pro

  • Final Cut

  • Advanced Excel (e.g. macros, lookup functions, pivot tables)

  • Google Analytics

  • Mailchimp

  • GIS

  • Web design (html/css)

  • Demonstrated interest in international development

  • Master’s degree in International Affairs, Public Policy, Communications, Public Administration, or related field
